Automatic Forwarding Changes

Automatic Forwarding Changes

As described in Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 63831, there is a major change coming to automatic external forwarding in Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 365) accounts.

External forwarding of email is a tactic used by attackers to exfiltrate data out of an organization and controlling that process is difficult. With this new feature Microsoft is adding support for more granular controls that allow the Microsoft 365 and Office 365 administrators to easily enable external forwarding for the right people in the organization through the outbound spam policy. They are also moving to disable external forwarding by default so organizations are secure by default.

This change is slated to roll out on September 1st, 2020.

We have already checked all Microsoft 365 tenants that we provide on-going support for and have checked for any reproted automated external forwarding happening in the last week. If any was found, we have run the forwarding report from Microsoft and have already created a ticket on the clients behalf and reached out to find out how they want to move forward.

If you have any questions or concerns about this change, please contact us and we will have one of our technicians reach out to you as soon as possible.
