Office 365 – Basic Auth Update

Office 365 – Basic Auth Update

In a previous post we notified you that Microsoft will be fully retiring basic auth for Office 365/Microsoft 365 tenants as of October 13, 2020.

Today, however, Microsoft has released a new update that explains the retiring of Basic Auth will be delayed until the second half of 2021 due to the COVID-19 crisis the world is currently facing.

It’s important to note that Microsoft will still continue to disable Basic Authentication for newly created tenants by default, and also begin to disable Basic Authentication in tnenats that have no recorded usage starting in October 2020. Microsoft will continue to complete the roll-out of OAuth support for POP, IMAP, SMTP AUTH and Remote PowerShell in the meantime.

We still recommend clients follow our recommendations laid out in the previous post about getting things situated before the October 2020 deadline. Please submit a ticket to us, and request the work to be performed and our technicians will start working on it as soon as possible for you!
